Dear Mr. O'Reilly:

On March 25, 1980, Mr. Mike Heffley of NRC Region II was notified orally of a potential substantial safety hazard concerning Rosemount model 1152 pressure transmitters.

Rosemount informed us of the potential problem for our evaluation and possible reporting. In summary, Rosemount has found in tests on a limited sample of transmitters that a normal output between 4 and 20 mA can occur for an over-range condition with input pressures greater than 140% of the upper range limit or for an under-range condition exceeding 100% of the span.

We are continuing to review each of our applications of this model transmitter to determine if erroneous outputs might occur during normal or accident system conditions nd, if so whether or not such outputs constitute a substantial safety hazar as defined by 10CFR21. A final report providing all information required 10rFR21 will be issued when this review is com-pleted. If you have any uest .ons, please contact us.

Ve pryly yours, A- . ,_ _
