SUMMARY

OF MONTHLY OPERATING EXPERIENCE - MAY 198u May 1 Station in Operational Mode 5 with the

Through reactor coolant system at atmospheric i May 31 pressure and approximately 100F.

, MAJCR SAFETY RELATED MAINTENANCE - MAY 1980 Beaver Valley Power Station Unit No. 1 is presently shut down for major modificat ions. Modifications are performed as construction activities.

The follcwing major modifications were performed or in progress during May 1980.

1. Testing, seal replacement and re-installation of Berger-Patterson large-bore snubbers.
2. Re-installation of the modified quench spray pumps.
3. Modification of the refueling water storage tank to . provide additional quench spray capacity and to add instrumentation required for the automatic change-over from injection mode to recirculation mode of safety injection.
4. Inspection, modification and re-assembly of the low head safety injection

! pumps.

5. Inspection and modification on a continual basis, as required, of pipe hangers, supports and base plates.
6. Inspection, internal cleaning and modification of the' reactor coolant pump motors thrust runners on oil pump to reduce cavitation and breakdown -

of motor lubrication oil. ,

7. Modification to increase the auxiliary feedwater pumps' minimum rr irculation flow.
8. Inspection and installation of the Unit 2 low pressure turbine rotors into the Unit 1 main-turbine to replace Unit I rotors which had disc crack indi ations.
