SUMMARY

OF - MONTHLY OPERATING EXPERIENCE DECEMBER 1997 December 1 - The Unit remained shutdown in Mode 5 as an unplanned extension of the 12th

               'through                         refueling outage continued. The unplanned extension was required for the following-December 20                   reasons: (1) to evaluate and correct original design deficiencies with piping supports in small-bore pipes having a dianster of 2 inches or less in a variety of systems in the

" plant; (2) for weld repair and replacement of a thmnal relief valve in Contaimnent

                                               -Penetration #20; and (3) to evaluste the effect on Unit 1 of the common Control.

Room Emergency Pressurization System due to modifications required at Unit 2. December 20 Following resolution and completion of all unplanned refueling outage extension startup holds, the Unit entered Mode 4 at 2011 hours, and continued with planned refueling outage startup activities.

              . December 21                     The Unit continued to heatup in preparation for entering Mode 3.

UNIT 2 - 7 DECEMBER 1997- , December 1 The Unit operated at a nominal value of 100% output. f through  : December 15  ; i December 16 The Unit operated at a nominal value of 100% output until 1300 hours when an  : unplanned shutdown was begun to take the Unit omine to make moditications to the , Control Room Emergency Pressurization System. The Unit was taken omine at .; 1724 hours when the Main Unit Generator output breakers were opened. Mode 2 .

Additional December 31 work completed within this report period included replacement of the seals on the "B" Reactor Coolant Pump and replacement of the mini-recirculation flow orifices , for the "A" and "C" Charging /High Head Safety Injection Pumps. j 9
