Dear Mr. O'Reilly:

As required by Technical Specificatiot.s 3.7.7.5a and 6.9.2d, Carolina Power and Light Company is submitting the following special report.

On August 19, 1980, the' plant fire support group accidently tripped a fire pro-tection deludge valve on the 50-foot elevation of the diesel generator building )

in the ventilation intake fan room, while attempting to clear a fire protection l alarm annunciator. An examination of the valve revealed the valve actuator arm l facing seal was cracked and the actuator solenoid relay misadjusted. The seal was replaced and the solenoid relay properly aligned, the valve was reset, and ,

the syste= vas returned to service. '
