Dear Mr. O'Reilly:

This confirms the telephone conversation between Mr. R. M. Poulk, Jr., and Mr. C. W. Hehl, at 1545 on February 9,1983, concerning a 24-hour reportable event per Technical Specification 3.7.7.1 and 6.9.2e.

To allow maintenance on selected 4160 volt switchgear, emergency bus E-2 was deenergized. Deenergizing this bus removed one of two power supplies to the motor-driven fire pump. Routinc surveillance performed on the diesel-driven fire pump batteries while emergency bus E-2 was deenergized determined that one of two redundant battery sources for the diesel-driven fire pump had less than required voltage. Both pumps were declared inoperable due to the loss of their redundant power supplies.
