Dear Mr. O'Reilly:

This confirms conversation between Mr. R. M. Poulk, Jr. , Regulatory Specialist and Mr. C. ;ulian of your office at 1530 on February 23, 1981, concerning an i= mediately reportable event.

On February 23, 1981, Brunswick Steam Electric Plant received notification from United Engineers and Constructors, Inc., that an analysis indicated that ten supports on the CRD vent line from the scram discharge volume would fail in the as built condition during a DESIGNED SEISMIC EVENT. These supports have been fixed and reanalyzed and are now of sufficient strength to meet all designed require = cats. This event is being reported under Tech-nical Specification 6.9.1.81 and will be addressed under LER 2-81-25.

While the Unit No.1 HPCI System was out of service for surveillance testing at 1845 on February 20, 1981, an auxiliary operator, while touring the Reactor Building, manually tripped the RCIC turbine without requesting or receiving permission from the Control Operator. The auxiliery operator was showing a new employee how to manually trip and reset the tut 51ne. The turbine was reset within 20 mit.utes by an SRO when the A0 experienced prob-lems resetting the system, ant R11C was restored to normal operability. This event is being reported under Technical Specification 6.9.1.8b and will be addressed under LER l-81-31.

Very truly yours, C. R. Dietz, General Manage'.
