Atlanta, Georgia 30303 3RUNSWICK STEAM ELECTRIC PLANT, UNIT NO.1 LICENSE NO. DPR-71 DOCKET NO. 50-323 CONFIRMATION OF AN IMMEDIATELY REPORTA3LE EVENT (1-81-34)

Dear Mr. O'Reilly:

This confirms the conversations between Mr. R. M. Poulk, Jr., Regulatory Specialist, and Mr. Albert Morrangiello of the NRC Cperations Center at 2145 on March 29,1981, and between Mr. R. M. Poulk, Jr. and Mr. R. C. Butcher at 0830 on Marth 30,1981, concerning an immediately reportable event.

At 0915 on March 28,19E1, while performing a review of piping supports. two snubbers and two pipe guides were found damaged on the Unit No. 1 HPCI injection line. The failures identified are as follows; one snubber was found to have a sheared shaft; the anchor bolts c'n 'the supporting beam for the other failed snubber were found pulled out of the wall; both pipe guides axperienced damage where the support structure attache.= to the support steel. All of this damage was found on an approximate 85 foot str.aight run of pipe located on the 42 foot elevation outside the drywell.

Work is in progress at this time to repair the snubbers and pipe guides and an examination of all other supports on this line is being performed. All three snubbers on the HPCI injection lines were functionally tested with the only failure noted being the snubber with the sheared shaft. Repair of these supports is expected to be completed by 1200 on March 31, 1981.
