SUMMARY

OF JUNE 26,2012, PREAPPLICATION CONFERENCE CALL WITH CAROLINA POWER & LIGHT COMPANY ON TRANSITION TO NATIONAL FIRE PROTECTION ASSOCIATION STANDARD (NFPA) 805 REQUIREMENTS FOR BRUNSWICK STEAM ELECTRIC PLANT, UNIT NOS. 1 AND 2 (TAC NOS. ME8291 AND ME8292)

On June 26,2012, a Category 1 public meeting via conference call was held between the U.S.

Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and Progress Energy, representing Carolina Power &

Light Company (the licensee) at NRC Headquarters, One White Flint North, 11555 Rockville Pike, Rockville, Maryland. This conference call was a follow up to a meeting held on May 31, 2012, regarding transition to NFPA 805 for Brunswick Steam Electric Plant, Unit Nos. 1 and 2 (Brunswick). The May 31, 2012, meeting summary is available in Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML12167A043. The purpose of this conference call was for the licensee to have additional discussions with the NRC staff prior to submitting a license amendment request (LAR) to transition to NFPA 805. The topic covered in the licensee's presentation included; the use of probabilistic risk assessment sensitivities, installation of incipient fire detection systems in main control room and cable spreading room, and the treatment of solid bottom cable trays. No decision of the technical adequacy of the licensee's efforts was made by the staff during this conference call.
