- PUBLIC MEETING CATEGORY 1 - PRELIMINARY WHITE FINDING - BRUNSWICK STEAM ELECTRIC PLANT, DOCKET NOS.
50-325 AND 50-324
Dear Mr. Waldrep:
This refers to the meeting conducted at your request at the NRC Region II Office on July 28, 2009, at 1:00 pm. The meeting's purpose was for Carolina Power and Light Company (CP&L)(doing business as Progress Energy Carolinas, Inc.) to discuss a preliminary white finding involving the failure to correctly translate the design basis into an engineering change to replace control relays on all four emergency diesel generators at the Brunswick Steam Electric Plant. Enclosed are a list of attendees and CP&Ls presentation slides.
The discussions focused on the following topics: An overview of the event, event description, corrective actions, and SDP Analysis. During the conference, CP&L agreed that a violation of NRC requirements occurred and stated that corrective actions have been taken to prevent recurrence. Carolina Power and Light Company also stated that their SDP evaluation concluded that the change in core damage frequency for this event is less than 1.0E-6/yr.
Carolina Power and Light Company committed to submit additional technical information to NRC for review. Results of NRCs review and decision will be discussed in Inspection Report 05000325, 324/2009010.
