UNITED STATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION WASHINGTON, D.C. 20555-0001 June 4, 2014 LICENSEE:
Duke Energy Progress, Inc.
FACILITY:
Brunswick Steam Electric Plant, Units 1 and 2
SUBJECT:
SUMMARY
OF APRIL 17, 2014, CLOSED MEETING WITH DUKE ENERGY PROGRESS, INC. REGARDING AREVA METHODS APPLICABILITY FOR MAXIMUM EXTENDED LOAD LINE LIMIT ANALYSIS PLUS (MELLLA+)
On April17, 2014, a closed meeting was held between Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff and representatives of Duke Energy Progress, Inc. (Duke Energy or the licensee) at the request of the licensee. The purpose of this meeting was to discuss the AREVA methods applicability to MELLLA+ operating domains for Brunswick Steam Electric Plant (BSEP), Units 1 and 2. The enclosure contains a list of attendees. The licensee's presentation slides may be accessed from the NRC Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS)
Accession No. ML14136A059.
Background
The licensee requested a pre-application meeting with NRC staff to discuss the applicability of AREVA methods to MELLLA+ operating domains for BSEP, Units 1 and 2. Further, the licensee requested a closed meeting due to the presentation of proprietary information by AREVA.
However, at the time of meeting, the licensee presented nonproprietary information. As a result, the NRC staff requested the licensee to submit a redacted version of the AREVA presentation so that both the licensee presentation and AREVA redacted information could be made available to the public. By letter dated May 7, 2014, Duke Energy submitted the information presented during the closed meeting held on April17, 2014 (ADAMS Accession No. ML14136A059).
Summary The licensee presented its approach to fuel and plant licensing analysis strategy. The licensee is planning to submit the license amendment request for both units during fall 2014, and will request NRC approval by spring 2016.
