Dear Mr. Scarola:
This refers to the Regulatory Conference meeting conducted at your request at the Region II Office in Atlanta, Georgia on April 5, 2007. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the trip of emergency diesel generator (EDG) #1 and failure of engine crankshaft bearing on November 2, 2006. Enclosed are a list of attendees and Progress Energys presentation slides.
The discussions focused on the following topics: Event Review, Diesel Generator Reliability, Mitigating Systems, and Keys Lessons Learned. During the conference, Progress Energy agreed with the NRCs characterization of the finding and preliminary significance determination. Results of the NRCs review and final decision on this issue will be discussed in NRC Inspection Report 05000325, 324/2007009.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.390 of the NRC's "Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter and its enclosures will be available electronically for public inspection in the NRC Public Document Room or from the Publicly Available Records (PARS) component of NRC's document system (ADAMS).
