LICENSE NO. DPR-71 DOCKET No. 50-325 CONFIRMATION FACSIMILE FOR AN IMMEDIATELY REPORTABLE EVENT (1-80-61)

Dear Mr. O'Reilly:

?* This facsimile confirms the conversation between Mr. A. C. Tollison, Jr.,

General Manager, and Mr. Paul Kellogg, of your office, at 1630 on August 2, 1980, and a subsequent conversation between Mr. A. C. Tollison, Jr., and Mr.

Austin Hardin, of your office, at 0900 on August 4, 1980.

While performing an analysis of the pipe supports on the CRD system, it has been determined that four supports outside the drywell and 12 supports inside the drywell could exceed structural integrity under the worst case conditions.

The analysis, performed by EDS Corporation, showed that these supports require redesign and upgrade to support the required loading under the worst case con-ditions. Analysis is also currently being performed on the Unit No. 2 CRD system.

Modifications for upgrade of these supports are currently in progress. Unit operation will not be resumed until completion of these modifications.

l This e-rent is being reported under Technical Specifications 6.9.1.81.

Very ly yours, l

A. C. Tollison, Jr. General Manager RMP/sgb Brunswick Steam Electri Plant cc:h.R.A.Hartfield I
