As required by Technical Specifications 3.3.5.7 and 6.9.2d, Carolina Power & Light Company is submitting the following special report.
On April 22, 1980, the fire detection alarm for Zone 9, fifty-foot elevation of the Reactor Building, annunciated and would not reset. An investigation determined that the ionization detector associated with this zone was reacting to steam from a local steam leak. The unit is now in a refueling outage and the leak will be repaired. The fire detectors for Zone 9 have been reset, tested, and returned to service satisfactorily.
