COMANCHE PEAK STEAM ELECTRIC STATION (CPSES)

DOCKET NOS. 50-445 AND 50-446 CONTROL ROOM HVAC SDAR: CP-84-29 (SUPPLEMENTAL REPORT)

Gentlemen:

On November 5,1984, by our letter logged TXX-4350, we notified you of a deficiency involving the safe shutdown analysis evaluations which did not consider a potential fire which could affect habitability of the control room and alternate shutdown capability. Also in TXX-4350, we notified you that this issue was reportable under the provisions of 10CFR50.55(e). This issue was subsequently identified by our letter logged TXX-6435, dated May 13, 1987, as an issue for which a final report had been issued. However, the corrective actions were formulated but the schedule for the implementation of those actions was not established. This report updates the status of those
corrective actions.

, in our report TXX-4350, we stated that in order to mitigate the consequences l of a fire in the plant, all essential cables and components will be afforded i protection by the installation of one-hour fire barrier material and fire l detection and suppression capabilities as discussed in the FSAR Section 9.5.1.6.1.D.1.a.

1 Installation of the one-hour fire barrier material is currently being accomplished in accordar:ce with drawing ECE-M1-1700, "Thermolag and Radiant Energy Shield Schedule." The installation of the fire barrier is scheduled l

for completion by October 1,1988, for Unit 1 and prior to fuel load for Unit 2.

Very truly yours, ,
