COMANCHE PEAK S1EAM ELECTRIC STATION (CPSES)
DOCKET N05. 50-445 AND 50-446 POTENTIAL FOR RHR PUMP STEAM "INDING SDAR CP-92-019 (INTERIM REPORT)
Gentlemen:
On July 29, 1992, during Unit 2 Hot runctional Testing, a steam leak was discovered in the Train
'A' RHR pump casing gasket and seal.
Later, the Train "B" RHR pump wae ' und to have a steam leak with no apparent seal damage.
A Unit 2 corrective action document was initiated and Unit 1 was informed via a Technical Evaluation Form.
TV Electric is in non-compliance with 10CFR50.55(e) in that this deviation, which could be associated with a significant safety hazard, was not evaluated within 60 days of discovery, and the NRC was not informed that the evaluation would not be completed within 60 days of discovery.
iloweve r, as a result of the Technical Evaluation Form and subsequent corrective action document, Unit I completed an initial reportability evaluation on October 16, 1992 which concluded that it was r.ot reportable pursuant to 10CFR50.73.
Unit 2 is currently eveluating the deviation pursuant to 10CFR50.55(e) and Westinghouse has initiated its Problem Investigation process to evaluate whether a potential safety hazard exists.
This evaluation will be completed by January 25, 1993.
