SUBJECT:

COMANCHE PEAK STEAM ELECTRIC STATION (CPSES)

DOCKET NOS. 50-445 AND 50-446 DEFECTIVE GOVERNOR DRIVE COUPLINGS SDAR: CP-82-07 (SUPPLEMENTAL REPORT) l Gentlemen:

1 On September 8,1982, we notified you by our letter, logged TXX-3567, of a deficiency involving defective governor drive couplings on the diesel generators which we deemed reportable under the provisions of 10CFR50.55(e).

This item was subsequently identified by our last report logged TXX-6435, dated May 13, 1987, as an item for which the corrective actions were formulated but the schedule for the implementation of those actions was not established. This is an interim report submitted to status corrective actions implemented to date.

In our report logged TXX-3567, we noted that Unit I couplings would be installed by November 1, 1982, and Unit 2 couplings would be installed after oil flush and turning of the engine.

Installation of Unit 1 couplings was completed on November 15, 1982. l Replacement of the Unit 2 couplings will be accomplished af ter oil flushing l l and turnover, at a convenient point in the startup phase. It is expected this l will coincide with inspections required by the Delaval Diesel Generator Owners l

Group. A definite schedule for the installation of the Unit 2 couplings will be provided in our next report.
