Subject:

FLOODING OF DRYWELL At 2 p.m. (EDT). April 25, 1989, while the plant was in its first refueling outage-(all fuel assemblies have been removed from the core), approximately 30,000 gallons of Condensate

- Storage Tank water inadvertently was drained into the suppression pool, with some water en M ing the drywell over the Weir Wall.

Tk .fcensee determined that a high pressure core spray (HPCS) suction valve to the condensate storage tank (CST) was in the open position when technicians opened an isolation valve on the HPCS full flow test return line to perform Movats testing. With the two valves open, vster from the condensate storage tank overflowed the suppression pool and entered the drywell to a depth of about 12 inches. Drainage was halted when workmen closed the condensate

storage tank suction valve. The licensee is assessing the of fect of this incident on drywell equipment.

7 in III (Chicago) is monitoring the licensee's course of action, i

The State of Ohio will be notified.

R:;gion III learned of this event at 9:30 a.m. (CDT), April 27, 11,89. This information is curr nt as of 11:30 a.m. (CDT). April 28, 1989
