Perry Unit 1 Notification of an Unusual Event Perry, OH 44081 Alert Site Area Emergency Docket No: 50-440 '- General Emergency XX Not Applicable Subj:ct: INITIAL CRITICALITY At approximately 2:46 a.m. (EDT), June 6, 1986, initial criticality was achieved.
Criticality occurred within predicted values. The resident inspector was in the control r:om observing the approach to criticality.
Two intermediate source range monitors did not exhibit any response to neutron flyx and were d:clared inoperable. The remaining channels, however, fulfilled the Technical Specification r;quirements for the number of operable channels. The two channels will be repaired and demonstrated operable during a subsequent reactor startup.
The State of Ohio will be notified.
