SHUTDOWN FOR REACTOR CORE ISOLATION COOLING SYSTEM REPAIR i

At about 11 a.m. (EST), on January 23, 1987, the licensee began a shutdown from five percent powar to repair a steam isolation valve for the turbine in the Reactor Core Isolation Cooling i system.

During the testing, the valve would not open because of a failure of the motor operator. A similar incident occurred on January 9,1987; that event involved a bent valve stem.

1 The repair is expected to take more than two days. The resident inspectors will monitor the licensee's repair activities.

The State of Ohio will be notified.

Region III (Chicago) was notified of the shutdown at 11 a.m. (EST), January 23, 1987. This t information is current as of that time.
