Theunitwasshutdownat4:08a.m._(CDT), September 23, 1986, to investigate the cause of high bearing temperatures on one of the recirculation pumps. During the shutdown, other maintenance will be performed including replacement of a recirculation valve in the High

. Pressure Coolant Injection-(HPCI) System and the evaluation and possible replacement of -

12 cells in the 250-volt battery bank. A vendor inspection determined some cells, which supply control power to HPIC System valves, to be degraded and the-HPCI system was

' declared-inoperable. Other Emergency Core Cooling Systems were operable, and the HPCI-

problem therefore did not require shutdown. -

The outage is expected to last longer than 48 hours5.555556e-4 days <br />0.0133 hours <br />7.936508e-5 weeks <br />1.8264e-5 months <br />.

The State of Iowa will-be notified.
