DROPPED FUEL BUNDLE ,

Our Region III (Glen Ellyn) office was notified by the licensee at I

approximately 7:30 p.m. on June 10, 1975 that a fuel bundle had dropped into the reactor vessel during a fuel movement operatien. At the time l of the occurrence, fuel movements were being conducted in connection l with the planned inspection of fuel channel boxes. Personnel evacuated the area even though there were no releases of radioactivity and no 4 i increased exposure rates associated with the dropped bundle.

  • g l Plans are in progress to determine how to secure the bundle which is positioned upright and leaning against the reactor vessel wall. The

cause of the incident has not been determined, nor has the extent of damage.

! A team of IE inspectors had planned to be at the site on June 11, 1975 and will review'the occurrence.

There are no immediate safety hazards to plant personnel or the public.

OIE received notification of thir, occurrence by telephone from the Duane Arnold Operating Engineer at 7:30 p.m. on June 10, 1975. -
