June 30, 1978 PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION OF EVENT OR UNUSUAL OCCURRENCE--PNO-78-129 This preliminary notification constitutes EARLY notice of an event of
_P_OSSI3LE safety or public interest significance.
The information presented is as initially received without verification or evaluation and is basically all that is known by IE staff on this date.

HEAT EXHAUSTED WORKER SUFFERS MINOR CONTAMINATION Iowa Electric Light and Power Company notified RIII (Chicago) that at 1:15 a.m. on June 30, 1978, a contract worker collapsed while working in 1
the refueling floor area. The victim was taken to the hospital after removal of his protective clothing.
The hospital detected minor con-tamination on the individual's cheek (20,000 DPM) and back (6,000 DPM).
l This was removed.
The hospital report indicated the individual suffered from heat exhaustion.
The worker was treated and released.
Rs The reactor is shutdown and removal of jetpump vibration instrumentation
{_j was in progress at the time of the incident.

The licensee reported the TV, radio and newspapers are reporting the incident extensively.
The media reports are factual.
Iowa Electric is responding to inquiries but does not intend to issue a formal news release.
RIII does not intend to issue a news release.
The State of Iowa has been notified of the incident.
RIII (Chicago) received notification of this incident by telephone from the licensee at 9:00 a.m. on June 30, 1978.
