SHUTDOWN EXCEEDING 48 HOURS This PN is being issued for information purposes only because the reactor is projected by the licensee to be shut down in excess of 48 hours5.555556e-4 days <br />0.0133 hours <br />7.936508e-5 weeks <br />1.8264e-5 months <br />.

At 8:24 a.m. (EDT) on May 16, 1987, Surry Unit 1 tripped on low reactor coolant flow rate in the "A" loop. The unit was at 100 percent power.

The licensee says the low flow condition appears to be due to partial closure of the hot loop isolation valve.

All systems functioned as designed during and following the trip.

A 12-day outage is planned to correct the problem.

The resident inspector will follow up.

The NRC received initial notification by telephone from the licensee to the headquarters duty officer at 8:50 a. m. on 'iay 16.

This information is current as of 1:00 p. m. (EDT) on May 18.
