HYDRAZINE SPILL INSIDE TURBINE BUILDING About two 9:00 p.m. (gallons of hydrazine EDT) yesterday when a spilled deionizedin the waterOconee mixing valve turbine leaked building shortly through, overflowingafter the mix tank. Hydrazine, an inflammable, toxic substance, is used at Oconee for oxygen scavenging in the secondary system.
Duke Power Company declared an unusual event at 9:25 p.m. and assembled all personnel on
, site to assure that everyone was accounted for. The unusual event was canceled at 11:00 p.m. after the spill had been cleaned up. No one was injured.
Duke is prepared to respond to media inquiries.
The State of South Carolina has been informed.
