Subject:

BOMB THREAT i

At 5:30 a.m., on March 6,1987, the security desk officer at the Indian Point Unit 2 off-site training center in Toddville, New York received a bomb threat by telephone.

The caller stated, "We are going to bomb Indian Point and then this place." Before terminating the call, the male caller repeated several times, "We are going to bomb".

At 5:50 a.m., the Unit 2 site security shift supervisor was notified and a search of the site was inititated by security and operations personnel. At 7:30 a.m., the search was concluded with negative results.

At 6:00 a.m., Indian Point Unit 3 management was notified and a search of that site was initiated. The search of Indian Point Unit 3 was also concluded with negative results, at 8:30 a.m.

Local law enforcement agencies responded to the sites and to the Unit 2 off site training center and heightened security measures have been implemented.

The NRC received notification of the event via EHS at 8:04 a.m.

The resident inspectors were promptly notified by each licensee.

The NRC Information Assessment Team and the State of New York have been notified. This PNS is issued for information only and is current as of 10:00 a.m., March 6,1987. No additional action is planned by the NRC at this time.
