RECIRCULATION PUMP RISER INDICATIONS Recirculaton Loop "A" risers all have been examined (5 risers, 20 welds). One weld in each of two risers has crack indications. Preliminary evaluations by the licensee is that three of the five crack indications are about 50 percent through wall. Data has been forwarded to GE (San Jose) for more detailed analysis. Recirculation Loop "B" risers all will be exam-ined. The licensee is addressing the repair method, the impact on the Unit 3 outage, and the implications on continued Unit 2 operation. (Unit 2 is scheduled to operate until refuel-

~ing outage begins in October 1983). Lead responsibility on this problem is being transferred to NRR.

The problem was identified through augmented in-service inspection under NUREG-0313. No licensee press release is planned yet;'NRC Region I will respond to media inquiries. The State of Maryland and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania have been informed. This information is current as of 9 a.m., April 27, 1983.
