NRC-BNL-PG&E-TES MEETING ON JULY 27,1982, ON BNL REPORT OF DIABLO CANYON STUDY A meeting was held on July 27, 1982, at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL),
Upton, New York, which was attended by representatives of the NRC, BNL, Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E), and Teledyne (TES), and its consultants. A list of attendees is provided as Attachment 1.
Subject of the meeting was a report, recently made public by the NRC, on an independent seismic-structural analysis of the annulus structure, including an analysis of attached piping, of the Diablo Canyon, Unit 1.
The purpose of the meeting was to afford TES the opportunity to obtain clarification and additional information from BNL in accordance with a letter, dated July 1, 1981, from H. Denton,-faC, to W. Cooper, TES. A verbatim transcript was taken of the meeting and is provided as Attachment 2, which also includes a copy of all material handed out or used during the meeting.
Corrections made by BNL to the transcript are also included.
J. Knight of the NRC stated the purpose.of the meeting and defined the role of BNL as a consultant to the NRC.
M. Reich provided a brief over-view of the SNL study with respect to the specific tas.ks requested by the NRC. The major part of the reeting was devoted to TES obtaining additional clarification and information.
W. Cooper as the principal speaker for TES set forth some ground rules to be followed for an efficient conduct of the meeting. He' referred to specific statements and subjects in the BNL report, in particular with respect to details of the modeling and noding that had been employed by BNL.
W. Cooper requested a number of detailed printouts of computer inputs and outpu ts.
BNL stated that because of the large volume of information that had been generated as part of the study, all information is stored on tape but hard copies can be made.
It was agreed by TES BNL and NRC that TES will prep &re a list of needed information which will be made available through the NRC.
All parties to the Diablo Canyon proceeding will be provided with a list of that information.

H. Friend of the PG&E Diablo Canyon Project Organization requested the staff to include in the BNL report prior to its release as a NUREG report a statement similar to the introductory remarks by J. Knight.
This would place the report in the proper perspective.
H. Friend also requested that some errors in the report be corrected. Brief statements were made at the conclusion of the meeting by D. Fleischaker, Counsel for Joint Intervenors and R. Hubbard, consultant to the Governor of California.
