JUL 27 1982 MEMORANDUM FOR:

F. J. Mi'raglia, Chief, Licensing Branch 3, Division of Licensing, NRR FROM:

R. L. Baer, Chief, Engineering and Technical Support -

Branch,DEQA,IE,

SUBJECT:

PART 21 REPORT ON PIPESD COMPUTER. PROGRAM The enclosed Part 21 report from Control Data Corporation (CDC) identified an error in the computer program PIPESD used for piping analysis. This computer program has been used to perform piping analyses at Diablo Canyon.

The enclosed notification states, "Results from time history load cases and response spectrum cases are unaffected." Therefore, the error should not affect the current seismic analysis work at Diablo Canyon. We have requested that Region IV review the extent of the error during their current inspection at CDC to verify that seismic analysis results will not be affected.

Based on the enclosed notification, the error requires several conditions to be present and should apply to a limited number of analyses. However sincesthe computer program was used at Diablo, there is a~ potential that some non dynamic

~

(thermal, deadweight, etc.) analyses could be affected by the error.
