SUBJECT:

TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TO REGION V ON THE DIABLO CANYON REVERIFICATION PROGRAM 3-This is to confirm your conversations of January 6,198X with D. Crutchfield and F. Miraglia regarding you providing technical assistance to Region V on the Diablo Canyon Reverification Program.

Region V has requested technical assistance to monitor and observe the ongoing reverification program being conducted by R. L. Cloud Associates for Pacific Gas & Electric Company on Diablo Canyon.

This program is being conducted in response to the Comaission Order dated November 19, 1981. However, neither the use of Cloud Associates nor the program plan for this effort has been approved at this time.

Thus, the scope of your efforts is to observe and monitor Cloud Associates implementation of their proposed program.

Per conversations with J. Crews of Region V, it is anticipated that you will be required to spend approximately two man-weeks in the Region over the next three to four weeks. Your first week will begin on January ll,1982, your second week will begin on January 25 or February 1,1982, depending on the progress of the ongoing work being conducted by Cloud Associates.

It is ray understanding that initially you will be working with Phil Morrill while in the Region.

Any questions or concerns that you may identify during the course of your activities in addition to being discussed with the Region should also be discussed with NRR (technical matters with R. Vollmer and programmatic matters with F. Miraglia) to assure overall consistency of approach in this program review.

Copies of any written products you generate during the conduct of this activity should be provided to H. Scherling the special PM assigned to the Diablo Canyon verification program who will subsequently make the appropriate dis trib ution.
