50-275 Hotification of Unusual Eve San Luis Obtspo County, California Alert site Area Em.ergency

Subject:

DESIGN REVERIFICATION STUDY REVEALS Ger,eral Er.,ergency POTENTIAL DISCREPANCY IN SEISHIC xx Not Applicable DESIGN BASIS FOR AUXILIARY BUILDING R. L. Cloud Associates. Inc. engineers, in the process of conducting design analyses o the Auxiliary Building of the Diablo Canyon plant, have identified seismic design spec curves which apparently supersede the design spectra curves used in the qualification of equircent and ccoponents within the Auxiliary Building.

The later design spectra curves were provided to PG&E by their consultant. URS/Bltne, i October 1979, whereas the design spectra curves provided to PG&E by URS/Bltine in M were apparently used in the qualification of equipment and ccc:ponents within the Auxi

~

Building.

The October.1979 design spectra curves differ in scce instances from those of May 1977.

Preliminary evaluation by PGAE and URS/Bitra indicates that tha differences in the design spectra curves do not affect the adequacy of the design of the Auxiliary Building.

The design of equipment and con:ponents within the building, although believed not to be seriously affected, has not yet been assesse,d in detail.

Neither the licensee nor the NRC rdans to issue a news release.

NRC Region V (Walnut Creek, California) learned of this finding when our inspector was infomed by R. L. Cloud engineers during a routine inspection at R. L. Cloud Associates' offices in December 1981.

Additional infomation was obtained during follow-up insp'ections at PG&E and URS/Bltne offices on January 7 and January 8,1982, respectively.

is current as of 2:30 p.m. (PST) on January 8,1982.
