Mr. John F. Ahearne, Chairman 'I United States Nuclear Regulatcry Ccemissien Washington, D. C. 20555

Dear Mr. Ahearne:

On behalf cf the over 1500 members of the American Asscciation of Meat Precessors, we wish to go on record with you as strongly favoring the start-up of the un-damaged Unit i at Three Mile Island. Since our. national headquarters is located only about six miles from Three Mile Island, we are in a position to say that, al-though all of us in the area shared a deep concern for cur safety, much of the reported hys:eria that resulted frca the TMI accident was media inspired.

America desperately needs the electrical pcwer that can be generated by TMI's Unit 1.

We urge you, therefore, not to allow a small but vocal grcup of opponents of nuclear energy to stand in the way of the needs and will of, the vast majority of Americans.

Sincerely, ,
