SAFETY EVALUATION FOR PUMP RELIEF REQUESTS 14 AND 15 TO THE RIVER BEND STATION PUMP AND VALVE INSERVICE TESTING PROGRAM (TAC NO.

M87766)

By letter dated September 14, 1993, you transmitted a request for relief from the requirements of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code,Section XI, for the River Bend Pump and Valve Inservice Testing Prograt, specifically pump relief requests (PRR) 14 and 15.

The staff has completed its review of the proposed relief requests. The staff has denied PRR 14. The basis for the denial is provided in the enclosed safety evaluation. For PRR 15, the staff has determined that an acceptable alternative was proposed pursuant to 10 CFR 50.55a(a)(3)(i), and that granting this relief is authorized by law, will not endanger life or property or the common defense and security, and is otherwise in the public interest. In making this determination, the staff has given due consideration to the burden that could result if those requirements were imposed on your facility. This letter grants the relief requested in PRR-15.
