TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY CH ATTANCCG A. T NNESSEE 37401 400 Chestnut Street Tower II November 23, 1979 Director of Ne : lear Reactor Regulation Attention: Mr. D. B. Vassallo, Acting Director Division of Project Management U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555

Dear Mr. Vassallo:

In the Matter of the Application of ) Docket No. 50-327 Tennessee Valley Authority )

This is in response to NRC concerns with respect to requirements for individuals who have applied f3r operator and senior operator licenses for Sequoyah Nuclear Plant un.t 1. Your November 1, 1979, letter to H. G. Parris stated that if .he Sequoyah fuel loading date is delayed such that 12 months have elt.psed since an applicant was administered the comprehensive NRC examination, a complete examination commensurate with the type of license for which the applicant applies will be required.

This requirement has been discussed with the NRC staff, and our under-standing is that reexamination will be required if the Sequoyah unit 1 operating license is received after March 31, 1980.

Very truly yours, TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY L. M. Mills, Manager Nuclear Regulation and Safety 1421 217 gool 5
