SUMMARY

OF A MEETING HELD ON MARCH 9, 2006, BETWEEN THE U.S.

NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION AND THE TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY ON THE LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION FOR THE BROWNS FERRY NUCLEAR PLANT, UNITS 1, 2, AND 3 (TAC NOS. MC1704, MC1705, AND MC1706)

On March 9, 2006, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff met with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA or the applicant), during the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS) public meeting to discuss issues related to the drywell shell liner ultrasonic testing (UT) examination results. These relate to the drywell shell liner Open Item (OI) 2.4-3 referenced in the final safety evaluation report (SER). During the ACRS meeting the applicant gave details of the UT examinations performed in Unit 1 and the nature of a specific result that shows a mechanical defect (i.e., inclusion). The ACRS members were satisfied with the applicants explanation, however, the information will be submitted to the NRC staff for review.
