SUMMARY

OF TELEPHONE CONFERENCE CALL HELD ON MAY 5, 2004, BETWEEN THE U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION AND THE TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY CONCERNING ACTIVITIES ON BROWNS FERRY NUCLEAR PLANT, UNITS 1, 2 AND 3, LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION (TAC NOS. MC1704, MC1705 AND MC1706)

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff and representatives of Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) the applicant held a telephone conference call on May 5, 2004, regarding the Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant Units 1, 2 and 3 (BFN) license renewal application (LRA). The participants discussed the NRC staffs review of Appendix F, Unit 1 Systems and Structures lay-up considerations, of the license renewal application. Appendix F contains TVAs planned resolution of the differences in Unit 1 Systems and Structures (and Programs) that will make Unit 1's Current Licensing Bases essentially the same as Unit 2 and Unit 3.

The participants also discussed the status of upcoming items on the application review schedule, specifically the Scoping and Screening Methodology Audit and the on-site GALL Audits. The telephone conference was useful in maintaining an open communication link on the subjects discussed to ensure the staffs review of the application was being accomplished effectively.

The NRC participants were Jimi Yerokun and Yoira Diaz-Sanabria. The TVA participants were Gary Adkins, Tim Abney, Roger Jennings and Valarie Smith.

No staff decisions were made during the telephone conference.
