Subject:

ALC0HOL BOTTLE FOUND IN CONTROL ROOM The licensee notified the Senior Resident Inspector that at 7:15 p.m. on April 14, 1987 two I&C engineers found a half pint peach brandy bottle inside a control room panel.

The I&C engineers were performing an inventory of agastat relays inside an electrical distribution panel. This panel is directly behind the control room shift supervisor's desk. The bottle was lying on its side on the top of two meters near the upper interior portion of this control room panel. The bottle was very dusty and dark brown in color, and combined with its location made it difficult to observe. The bottle's Maryland state liquor seal was broken, and it was about half full. The licensee determined this event not to be reportable; however, the senior resident inspector was notified at home at about 8:00 p.m. Further licensee investigation is to include a confirmation of bottle contents, a check for fingerprints, and a search for the date of the liquor seal. The resident inspectors are following licensee's actions.

The licensee and NRC Region I will respond to media inquiries.

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and State of Maryland have been informed.
