DOE l Radiologica' and Environmental Science Laboratory (RESL). for the following analyses: Sr-89. Sr 90. Gama si,ectrometry, gross alpha, gross beta, and tritium. The Licensing Board requested that the $taff provide documentation I of the results of the RESL analyses of this sample. Attached are the results  !

of the RE5L snalyses and NRC Region l's comparison of the RESL results with L the Licensee's results. l To assist in interpretation of these tables, the Staff provides the following explanation of tems and concepts used. The radionuclides analyzed and  !

reported on page 1 e l hted in the first column. The results reported or [

-2-whether the results for each of the analyses are considered to be "detection" of the radionuclide. Applying those criteria, the analysis results for the following radionuclides exceed the stated criteria for detection: Gross Beta.

H-3, Sr-90, Co-60, Cs-134, Cs-137, and Sb-125. On page 3 "R" stands for

"Resolution," "A" for "Agreement" and "D" for "Disagreement." Under the

"Criteria for Comparing Analytical Results" now used by the Staff, ratios falling outside the "Agreement" bounds listed in Attachment 1 to Table 1 of Staff Exhibit 7 are deemed to be "Disagreements."
