1.0 OBJECTIVE The thermal hydraulic analysis of the Spent Fuel Pool of Waterford Unit 3 was performed (Holtec ths ..

'- Report HI- 961586, Rev.1, Ref.1) using a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) model on in FLUENT (Ref. 2) computer program. The Consulting Division was requested to conduct an f independent review of this analysis. The objective of this review is to examine the CFD model used for the determination of the maximum local pool temperature.

2.0 METHODOLOGY -

The independent review basically involves the following elements.

. The controlling physical parameters used in the' original Fluent model have been reviewed to establish the adequacy of the model.

. A new model has been reconstructed on Fluent /UNS (Ref. 3).

. Sensitivity studies have been performed to examine the impact of uncertainties in various parameters on the peak temperature.

. Some hand calculations have also been performed as an alternate check on the computer predictions.
