UNIT SHUTDOWNS AND POWER REDUCTIONS DOCKET NUMBER : 50-382 UNIT NAME : WATERFORD 3 DATE OF REPORT : August 10,1998 COMPLETED BY : D. S. Freeman i TELEPHONE: (504)739-6575 i i

REPORTING PERIOD : July,1998 Outage Date Duration Shutdown Cause, Comments and 4 Number (yymmdd) Type (Hours) Reason Method Corrective Actions 98-02 980716 F 51.9 A 2 A manual Reactor Trip was initiated when the malfunction of Main Feedwater Pump A resulted in Steam Generator water level dropping to 30% narrow range. A circuit card ,

had shorted out due to condensation dripping onto the card from a conduit above. Replaced circuit card and sealed the above conduit. Further details in CR-98-0947.

98-03 980722 F 0.0 A 5 A power reduction was required to take Main Feedwater Pump A offline due to oscillation problems in the pump speed. High moisture content in the turbine lube oil is blamed for the erratic speed fluctuation. The turbine lube oil and filters were changed out and the pump speed is being controlled via the j HP governor valve. Further details in CR-98-0984. l 1
