Exercise Report for the June 19-20, 1985, Exercise of the Offsite Radiological Emergency Preparedness (REP)

Plans for the Oconee Nuclear Station (ONS)

Attached is one copy of the Exercise Report for the June 19-20, 1985, partial participation joint exercise of the offsite REP plans for the ONS. The ONS is located on the shore of Lake Keowee in the eastern part of Oconee County, approximately 8 miles northeast of the Town of Seneca, South Carolina. Oconee and Pickens Counties, all located in the 10-sile plume emergency planning zone, fully participated in the exercise.

W e exercise report was prepared by Region IV of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FDfA). % ere was one NUREG-0654/ FEMA-REP-1, Rev. 1 deficiency observed during the exercise that requires a schedule of corrective actions. E is deficiency, which is typically classified as a Category B deficiency, can be corrected through training and additional resources. E is deficiency did not detract frce the overall capability demonstrated by the State of South Carolina and Oconee and Pickens Counties to protect the health and safety of the public in the event of a radiological emergency. W erefore, the 44-CFR-350 approval granted on February 23, 1983, will remain in effect.

FEMA Region IV staff will furnish a copy of this exercise report to the State of South Carolina and will obtain a schedule of corrective actions. %e Region will assure conpletion by the State of the necessary corrective actions.
