Response to NRC Mechanical Engineering Branch Item 109

Dear Mr. Denton:

i During the week of April 19, 1982, Duke Power Company and Westinghouse met with the NRC's Mechanical Engineering Branch to resolve open items relative to the Catawba FSAR. Item 109 concerning fuel damping values was discussed at the meeting and was subsequently resolved. The minutes of the meeting which document resolution of Item 109 are attached for your information and use. Please note that minutes from the remainder of the meeting were transmitted to the Staff by my letter of September 27, 1982.

Attachment 1 contains information proprietary to Westinghouse Electric Corporation; it is supported by previously submitted affidavits signed by Westinghouse, the owner of the information. The affidavits set forth the basis on which the informa-tion may be withheld fror; public disclosure by the Commission and address with specificity the considerations listed in paragraph (b)(4) of Section 2.790 of the Commission's regulations.

Accordingly, it is respectfully requested that the information which is proprietary to Westinghouse be withheld from public disclosure in accordance with 10 CFR Section 2.790 of the Commission's regulations. Correspondence with respect to the proprietary aspects of the Application for Withholding or the supporting Westinghouse affidavits should reference CAW-82-35 and should be addressed to R. A. Wiesemann, Manager, Regulatory and Legislative Af fairs, Westinghouse Electric, Corporation, P. O. Box 355, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 15230.

Attachment 2 is the ASME paper on Detection of Fuel Vibration.
