December 13, 1982 Director Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation U S Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555 PRAIRIE ISLAND NUCLEAR GENERATING PLANT Docket Nos. 50-282 License Nos. DPR-42 50-306 DPR-60 Submittal of Revision 1 of the NSP Proprietary Reload Methodology Topical Reports C Twenty-five copies of two proprietary topical reports concerning reload methodology are being submitted for your review. The attached reports, NSPNAD-810lP, Rev 1, " Qualification of Reactor Physics Methods for Appli-cation to PI Units", and NSPNAD-8102P, Rev 1, " Reload Safety Evaluation Methods for Application to PI Units", have been revised as a result of questions from the July 21, 1982 meeting between the NRC Staff and NSP.

In order to demonstrate the offsite dose limits in 10CFR100 are met, NSPNAD-8102P assumes that the methodology used to calculate off-site doses in the FSAR is valid. This methodology will be verified for burn-ups up to and beyond 37,000 MWD /MTU batch average exposure. The results of this verification will be sent for NRC Staff review prior to June 1, 1983. The first core planned to use the methodology in NSPNAD-8102P is Unit 2, Cycle 8. This cycle is scheduled to begin in August 1983. We want to resolve this issue prior to beginning Unit 2, Cycle 8.

All necessary information for establishing the proprietary nature of this information was included with the February 12, 1982 submittal. We request limited distribution of the attached documents consistent with proprietary information procedures.
