For Surface Vehicle bog)hc This letter is being provided to confirm, as required by Generic Letter 89-07, that the Prairie Island Safeguards Contingency Plan and

implementing procedures have been modified to include short term actions

that could be taken to protect against attempted radiological sabotage involving a land vehicle bomb if such a threat were to materialize.

The. Prairie Island Safeguards Contingency Plan and implementing procedures have-been revised in accordance with the guidance provided in Generic Letter 89-07. Because the changes to the Safeguards Contingency Plan resulting from Generic Letter 89 07 do not decrease the safeguards effectiveness of the plan, the changes are being implemented without ,

prior'NRC approval as allowed by 10 CFR 50.54(p)(2). Pursuant to the

requirements of 10 CFR 50.54(p)(2), the revised Safeguards Contingency f Mr Plan is attached. (.( ;

The. attached Safeguard Contingency Plan revision contains Safeguards g-g Information.and should not be placed in the Public Document Room.
