Supplemental Information in Response to Inspection Reports No. 50-282/88016(DRS) and 50-306/88016(DRS)

The purpose of this letter is to inform you that the Containment Spray System t

will be modified in order to comply with Appendix J to 10 CFR Part 50.

Inspection Reports 50 282/88016 and 50 306/88016, transmitted by your letter dated November 21, 1988, contained a notice of violation for failure to i

perform Type C testing on the Containment Spray System in accordance with the requirements of Appendix J to 10 CFR Part 50.

Specifically, the inspection i

report identified out failure to Type C test Unit I containment spray valves

.MV 32103 and MV-32105 for penetrations 29A and 29B as a violation of Appendix f

J requirements.

In our December 21, 1988 response to this notice of violation, we stated that motor valves MV 32103 and MV-32105 could not be Type C tested in compliance with Appendix J in the present configuration. We committed to resolve this issue prior to the refueling outages scheduled in 1990.

Air test connections will be added to allow pressurization of the containment spray piping between motor valves MV 32103 and MV-32105 and the down stream manual isolation valves (See attached figure).

This modification will be made t

to the corresponding Unit 2 valves. These modifications will be completed during..the next refueling outages, now scheduled for January 1990 for Unit 1 and September 1990 for Unit 2.

Following completion of the modifications, motor valves MV-32103 and MV-32105 (and the corresponding Unit 2 valves) will be Type C tested in accordance with Appendix J.
