PRAIRIE ISLAND NUCLEAR CENERATING PLANT Docket Nos. 50-282 License Nos. DPR 42 50 306 DPR 60 Supplemental Response to NRC Bulletin 88 09 Thimble Tube Thinnine in Westinchouse Reactors In our October 31,-1988 response to NRC Bulletin 88 09, we committed to formalize our. thimble tube inspection program and acceptance criteria to document conformance with the requirements of Criterion 1 of Bulletin 88-09.
Formalization of the Prairie Island thimble tube inspection program was to be completed by December 31, 1989. This completion date was established to allow for the incorporation of the results of the Westinghouse Owners Group Bottom Mounted Instrumentation Program.
\\
The Westinghouse Owners Group Program has been delayed.
As a result, we will not be able to formalize the Prairie Island thimble tube inspection program by December 31, 1989.
The NRC Project Manager for Prairie Island was informed of the delays in the Westinghouse Owners Group Program and the formalization of the Prairie Island program by telephone on October 23, 1989.
Based on the present schedule for completion of the Westinghouse Owners Group Bottom Mounted Instrumentation Program, we now anticipate that the Prairie Island thimble tube inspection program will be formalized by December 31, 1990.
As discussed in our October 31, 1988 response to NRC Bulletin 88-09, Prairie Island has had an informal thimble tube inspection program in place since early 1987. This informal program calls for eddy current inspections of all incore flux thimbles every refueling outage until such time that reliable wear rate data can be established. The informal program, as described in the October 31, 1988 response, will continue until a formal program is established.
