PROPOSED REVIEW SCHEDULE REGARDING THE APPLICATION FROM FLORIDA POWER CORPORATION FOR RENEWAL OF THE OPERATING LICENSE FOR CRYSTAL RIVER UNIT 3 NUCLEAR GENERATING PLANT (TAC NOS. ME0274 AND ME0278)

Dear Mr. Young:

By letter dated December 16, 2008, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) received the Florida Power Corporation application for renewal of operating license DPR-72 for Crystal River Unit 3 Nuclear Generating Plant (CR-3) in accordance with Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR) Section 54.17. Notice of receipt of this application was published in the Federal Register on February 4, 2009 (74 FR 6060). The purpose of this letter is to forward the NRC staffs safety and environmental review schedule for the application (Enclosure).

The NRC staff will follow established review procedures and the enclosed schedule to complete the reviews required by 10 CFR Parts 54 and 51.

We would like to emphasize that the review of your license renewal application will be very detailed and thorough. The staff will make every effort to meet the schedule; thus, your responses to the staff's request for additional information, as needed, must be complete and provided in a timely manner. We request that you inform the NRC staff as early as possible should potential delays arise in your support of the enclosed schedule.
