of plant operational history.

l EVENT DESCRIPTION AND PROBABLE CONSE0VENCES:

The Oyster samples were collected on March 7,1980 from the Camp Conoy sampling location and analyzed for gamma-emitting radionuclides as required. The results of the analyses showed the presence of Ag-110m at 129+5 pCi/Kg(wet). The oyster samples collected on the same date from the Kenwood Beach sampling location (the background location) showed Ag-110M at < 3 pCI/Kg(wet).

The sampi es of bottom sediments collected on March 7,1980 from the Camp Conoy 1 location were Ge(L1) counted for complete gamma isotopic analyses. The results  ;

of these analyses showed the presence of Co-58 at 208+26 pCi/Kg(dry) and Co-60 at 209+24 pCi/Kg(dry). Similar samples for the same iieriod collected from (i)

Long Beach showed Co-58 at < 20 pCi/Kg(dry), (ii) Intake area showed Co-60 at <20 pCi/Kg(dry).

Based on the observed levels of Ag-110m during this sampling period, for an average adult consuming one kilogram of oysters per year the doses to the GI Tract and Whole Body are estimated at less than 8x10-3 mrem / year and less than 1.2x10 s mrem / year, respectively. These are very small fractions of the allowable 25 mrem / year (GI Tract) and 25 mrem / year (Whole Body) doses to members of the general public, (40 CFR, Part 190 Environmental Radiation Protection Standards for Nuclear Power Operations) and are therefore considered to be of no consequence to the health and safety of the public.
