Dear Mr Keppler:

PRAIRIE ISLAND NUCLEAR GENERATING PIAhT Docket No. 50-282 License No. DPR-42 50-306 DPR-60 Environmental Event Report 79-06 Cooling Tser Operations - Julv Under TS B-5.4.2.A, we are furnishing two copies of this Environmental Event Report covering operation of the plant circulating water system in the partial recycle mode with daily average blowdown flow in excess of 150 cfs.

Daily average blowdown flow in excess of 150 cfs was required for only nine days during the month of July mainly because Unit I was removed from service The outage was on July 4 and continued out for the balance of the month.

caused by turbine blading failures. For each of the four days prior to the Unit I shutdown excess flow was necessary and the highest flow of 676 cfs occurred on July 3. Minor excess flows (158-213 cfs) were needed for five days during the outage.

The higher flows were required to maintain cooling water inlet temperatures at 1 css than 85 F.

Yours very truly, c ~-
