Deletion of RTD Bypass Manifold

Dear Sir:

By letter dated July 22, 1987, justification was provided to support the proposed deletion of the Resistance Temperature Detector (RTD) Bypass Manifold at Catawba.

Attachment III to that letter provided the technical justification and safety analysis for the Technical Specification amendment supporting the modification.

In the first paragraph of Attachment III a statement was made that the RTD's currently installed at Catawba were manufactured by Rosemount. Please be advised that the RTD's that are currently installed are not Rosemount RTD's but RdF RTD's. The uncertainty associated with the Rosemount RTD's was not used for Catawba. The changes to the Technical Specifications are a result cf new analyses performed by Westinghouse to reflect the redistribution of .ietpoint uncertainties, available margin, deletion of the bypass loop, temperature streaming effects and the use of three (3) RTD's per loop. -

We regret any inconvenience or confusion that may have resulted by the reference to Rosemount RTD's.

Very truly yours,

,, 6 h& g/L.-
