Dear Mr. O'Reilly:

SEQUOYAH NUCLEAR PLANT UNITS 1 AND 2 - POSSIBLE EXCESSIVE WATER HAMMER FORCES ON MAIN FEEDWATER CHECK VALVES - NCR MEB 79 SECOND INTERIM REPORT The subject deficiency was initially reported to NRC-0IE Inspector C. R. McFarland on January 15, 1979. An interim report was submitted on February 14, 1979.

An analysis of the main feedwater check valves' ability to absorb forces imposed by feedwater hammer following a postulated feedwater line break in one leg of the main feedwater system is in progress. TVA has found that some incorrect data may have been entered into the computer program used to determine the energy i= parted to the main feedwater check valves.

Our analysis is continuing, and we expect to submit a complete report by May 21, 1979.

If you have any questions concerning this matter, please get in touch with M. R. Wisenburg at FTS 854-2581.

Very truly yours,

<
